Guests at our lodge over the festive season were treated to a green bushveld Christmas, quite unlike the ones they used to know. Instead of treetops glistening and children listening for sleigh bells in the snow… it was sunny weather and listening to the trumpeting of elephants or baboons while dining al fresco. It may not have been the typical Christmas scene but the staff at the lodge still made sure to provide the festive spirit, with gifts, gourmet dining and even some unique performances by local dancers.
This year Elephant’s Eye, Hwange was fully booked over the festive season, in the true spirit of the more the merrier! On Christmas day, in typical Southern Hemisphere style, guests had lunch outside in warm sunny weather while some impala and zebra grazed nearby. In the evening, the tables were decorated in a festive style and everyone had a gift at their place setting – our lady guests received a stunning scarf and the men received a handy travel mug. Their group guide Lucky also gave everyone a gift from him, a really special extra touch! Moffat, our magnificent chef cooked up an absolute feast of his amazing culinary delights for Christmas dinner.
After dinner, a group of local dancers visited the lodge and after an impressive performance of traditional dancing, the evening became more interactive and the dancers sang and danced with our guests, which everyone greatly enjoyed! Guests said it was a totally different experience, unlike anything they had ever done before. To watch the traditional dance, click here.
On New Year’s Eve guests were treated to sparkling wine and midnight snacks at the countdown to ring in the New Year.
We asked some of our staff for their New Years’ resolutions, have a read below and see whether any of them inspire you:
- Sulet, Hospitality Manager: Train for and do a half marathon by August 2018. Start studying to receive a Hospitality Management Diploma.
- Mo, Hideaways Reservation & Product Development: “Save up for a special trip!”
- Cathy, Admin Manager & Masseuse: “Learn to manage my stress levels better. Take more time for myself.”
We hope your resolution for 2018 is to come visit us at our lodge!
