Community Upliftment in Hwange

Guests of Elephant’s Eye Tented Camp in Hwange have the opportunity to participate in a Community Upliftment experience, teaching them more about the customs and culture of the local Dete community. It takes place with the cooperation of the Grow Africa Foundation, which aims to empower local communities through sustainable upliftment initiatives.

During the community upliftment in Hwange, there is the chance to interact with the Dete residents. Guests learn about local traditions, experience the challenges these communities contend with on a daily basis and visit some of the economic and upliftment enterprises that locals have established to combat these challenges and improve their living conditions.

Dingani Primary is the local primary school close to our Hwange safari lodge. A visit to Dingani will expose guests to the inspiring hope, dedication, and resourcefulness of the staff and students.
At the Vukani project, you can buy beaded jewelry during your community upliftment experience. All pieces are handmade from donated glossy magazines by a group of elderly men and women.

Through the Thandanani sewing project, local women have been taught basic sewing skills and now sell various items, the designs and fabrics truly African in style and beauty. It is a perfect gift to remind guests of a memorable community upliftment outing during their African safari.
Guests will leave with a truer sense of the real Zimbabwe after their community upliftment experience.
