For the ultimate safari experience and a true connection with nature, the sleep-out deck at our Hwange game lodge allows guests to fall asleep under a starlit African sky. After dinner, guests are escorted to The Eye, as the star-bed is also known, for this extraordinary and adventurous experience of going to sleep, being serenaded by the comforting sounds of the surrounding wilderness.
The Eye is about a 15-minute drive from Elephant’s Eye Tented Camp, situated in a private concession on the eastern border of Hwange National Park. The sleep-out deck, with its luxurious star-bed, is situated at a waterhole, providing the opportunity to view a wide variety of animals coming and going, especially in the early morning. The deck is on 2 levels, with a bathroom underneath and the bed covered with a mosquito net.
Guests are escorted to the sleep-out deck at sunset for sundowners, before being left to enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding bushveld as the day turns to night. In the morning, guests are collected after a once-in-a-lifetime star-bed experience and taken back to Elephant’s Eye to enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Spending the night at The Eye is a unique opportunity to possibly observe some nocturnal animals such as owls and hyenas. You will have your own private moonlit waterhole within full view of your star-bed and fall asleep to the magical sounds of the African night. Wake up as elephants walk through the mopane forest to quench their thirst in the early morning light.
