Fam Trips That Inspire and Rejuvenate – Spending Time in Mozambique and Zimbabwe

The busy trade show season has finally wound down and now that we’ve managed to catch our breath we are reflecting on the connections made, relationships strengthened and partnerships established. For agents, one of the highlights of these industry events is the opportunity to experience the properties and products they sell on specially created Fam trips. We had 2 such trips for our Hideaways agents and the feedback we received was amazing! Agents were blown away with the service at Rio Azul and the food received high praise too, with one remarking it’s the best food they had eaten in Mozambique. Up in Hwange, agents really enjoyed those special bush evenings around the campfire sharing wildlife tales and reflecting on the beauty of the bush.

Our valued guests were accompanied on their journeys by our in house safari specialists, members of our team who have the inside knowledge and unique insight that ensured their trip was much more than a holiday, or simply an opportunity to kick back after a busy period.

There were two separate trips, run by 3 of our safari specialists with the one trip only visiting Rio Azul in Mozambique and the other trip combining bush and beach, visiting both Mozambique and Hwange National Park staying at 2 of our lodges Rio Azul and Elephant’s Eye, Hwange as well as 2 other Zimbabwean properties, Elephant Camp in Victoria Falls and Deteema Springs in Hwange National Park.

Sulet, our Hideaways Operations Manager, escorted the agents through the Zimbabwean portion of the trip and made sure they enjoyed their various activities such a tour of Victoria Falls and an interactive art experience where the agents released their creative side with a guided painting lesson of a beautiful African safari scene. At Elephant’s Eye, Hwange our guests were so inspired by our Community Upliftment Experience that one of them made an incredibly generous donation of school books, scholarship fees, and a Project Penya contribution. At Deteema Springs, a herd of elephants spent the whole night drinking from the waterhole right in front of the lodge, thrillingly reminding the agents that they are indeed in the heart of the bush!

Rachel, one of our sales consultants, took over and joined the agents for the Mozambican contingent where they spent a wonderful few days at Rio Azul finding serenity in a tropical wilderness. Guests were treated to a lovely sunset cruise on arrival, which was only the first of 3 delightful boat excursions. The following days were also filled with boat trips to Bartolemieu Diaz island where they observed a sea turtle while snorkelling and sat on comfortable chairs under a gazebo chatting and relaxing, enjoying the slow-paced island life, and Santa Carolina island for some excellent snorkelling and exploring the ruins of an abandoned hotel that had the agents hatching plans of pooling their money and bringing it back to life.

Another trip highlight was exploring the mangroves and marveling at the variety of birdlife, as well as climbing the dunes in the early morning to meet the sun as it started to emerge from behind the horizon. At sunset guests enjoyed fantastically fresh seafood dinners and local rum cocktails, still scheming about how to revive that abandoned hotel and stay in Mozambique forever.

There was another trip to Rio Azul that was in the care of Alex our Product Manager, they too enjoyed an island excursion with some snorkelling as well as exciting catch and release fishing. The agents were very impressed with the staff and the warm welcome they received and many left glowing praise for Mark, the manager, who besides making sure guests enjoyed every moment of their stay was also the boat skipper for their blissful island excursions.

Hideaways was delighted to host our agents at our properties and share our unique insight on Zimbabwe and Mozambique with the world travellers! We will be hosting more Fam trips like this in the future, if you are an agent who is interested in joining, why not sign up for our mailing list here and keep an eye on your inbox!
