Your Experience

Every new day at our Botswana safari lodge is announced by the rhythmic beat of African drums, rousing guests for another day of riveting wildlife experiences in the wilds of Chobe and Hwange. The boutique eco-lodge is situated in a busy animal corridor and part of an ancient elephant migratory route. Your tent has a private viewing deck as well as a refreshing outdoor shower.

In the main area, a rim-flow pool overlooks the busy waterhole where herds of elephants drink and bathe, and during the dry season other animals line up to wait their turn. The sunken fire pit just off the deck is a space that invites quiet contemplation in the cool afternoon breeze and a gathering place for bush tales around the campfire in the evening. Look forward to boma dinners under the stars and an African Chic experience, a down-to-earth dinner with a delightfully local African flavour.

Our expert guides will astound you with their knowledge of fauna and flora as will the amount of wildlife to discover, including members of the Big 5. Besides journeying through the bush in an open-air safari vehicle, guests also have the incredible opportunity to experience the area by water. A Chobe River boat cruise is an absolute must-do. Hippos and crocodiles bask in the sun on the banks of the river while elephants get right in the water and walk across to the other side, indeed an up close and personal experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wi-Fi is available in the main guest areas at Camp Kuzuma, and mobile reception is limited. While guests can stay connected if needed, the camp’s remote setting naturally encourages time spent outdoors and away from everyday distractions.

A stay at Camp Kuzuma includes accommodation, all meals, water, soft drinks, beers, ciders, mixers, house wine, two shared safari activities per day, and laundry. Activities are guided by experienced guides and focus on exploring the surrounding Kazuma Forest Reserve.

Camp Kuzuma welcomes children aged 7 years and older. While families are welcome, the camp is generally better suited to older children and teenagers who can fully engage with game drives and the quieter pace of a remote safari setting. The unfenced nature of the camp and the focus on wildlife viewing activities mean it is less suited to very young children.

Safari activities at Camp Kuzuma centre on morning and afternoon game drives within the Kazuma Forest Reserve. A standout feature of the camp is armchair game viewing from the lodge itself, with a permanent waterhole directly in front of camp that regularly attracts elephant and other wildlife throughout the day.

Evenings may include boma dinners under the stars, and spa treatments are available at an additional cost for guests looking to unwind between safari activities.

Camp Kuzuma is located in the Kazuma Forest Reserve, a wildlife corridor between Hwange National Park, Chobe National Park, and the Okavango region. The area is particularly well known for its large elephant populations, with herds frequently seen near camp. Guests can also expect to see buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and a range of antelope species. Predators such as lion, leopard, spotted hyena, and wild dog are present in the wider area, though sightings vary with movement patterns. Birdlife is diverse throughout the year.

Camp Kuzuma is a seasonal camp, operating between April and November, when conditions in the Kazuma Forest Reserve are most suitable for travel and wildlife viewing.

  • April to June: The landscape is still fresh after the rains, with mild temperatures and fewer visitors. Wildlife is present throughout the area, and this period offers a quieter, more relaxed safari feel.
  • July to August: Cooler winter months bring comfortable daytime temperatures and excellent conditions for game drives. Elephant movement through the area is steady, and time spent at the camp’s waterhole can be particularly rewarding.
  • September to October: Warmer, late dry-season conditions often see increased wildlife activity around water sources. Elephant sightings are especially frequent during this time, though afternoons can be hot.
  • November: Temperatures begin to rise ahead of the rains, and the landscape takes on a more dramatic, late dry-season character before the camp closes for the summer months.

The best time to visit depends on whether guests prioritise cooler temperatures, quieter travel periods, or peak elephant activity.

A stay of two to three nights is ideal at Camp Kuzuma. This allows time to enjoy multiple game drives, experience both daytime and nighttime wildlife activity, and settle into the peaceful rhythm of this quiet reserve.

Camp Kuzuma is best suited to couples, families with older children, and travelers seeking a quiet safari experience in a lesser-visited reserve. It appeals to guests who enjoy open landscapes, frequent elephant movement, and a relaxed pace, without the need for a highly structured or child-focused safari environment.
