Camelthorn Bush Camp is conveniently situated just 92km from Maun, making it easily accessible for travelers arriving at Maun Airport. For self-drivers, the camp is an accessible option, located about two hours north of Maun via well-traveled routes or arrange road transfers from the airport directly to the camp. For a more exclusive experience, opt for a scenic helicopter transfer. Alternatively, flights to and from Khwai Airstrip provide a seamless and time-efficient travel option.

Nestled on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Camelthorn Bush Camp is ideally positioned within a vast 85,000-hectare concession. It lies close to Moremi Game Reserve to the west and Chobe National Park to the north, with Maun approximately a two-hour drive to the south.

The ideal time to visit Camelthorn Bush Camp, located near the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, and the Khwai Area, is between May and September. This dry season offers exceptional wildlife viewing as animals congregate around scarce water sources. Daytime temperatures are comfortably warm, averaging between 25-28°C, while mornings and evenings can be quite chilly, sometimes dropping below 10°C—so packing warm layers is essential.

As September progresses, the landscape becomes drier, and natural water sources begin to dwindle. This seasonal shift draws wildlife to the remaining waterholes, creating exceptional game-viewing opportunities. To keep guests comfortable, the camp offers a welcoming lounge area and shaded spaces to relax between activities.

Your Experience

Wake up to the sounds of the wild, with the first light of the day breaking through the trees. After a hot cup of coffee around the fire, head out for a half-day game drive through our private concession, where our expert guides will help you track elephants, lions, and other wildlife as the bush comes to life. Back at camp, lunch is served in the dining tent, followed by time to rest in the shade, recharge at the solar-powered charging station, or simply take in the surroundings.

Or opt for a full-day game drive to Khwai River or Moremi Game Reserve, where you’ll encounter even more diverse wildlife. When visiting Khwai, take to the water with a mokoro ride, gliding silently through the channels of the Delta, keeping an eye out for hippos and crocodiles at eye level.

As the sun sets, enjoy a refreshing sundowner before heading back to camp. A night drive offers the chance to see leopards on the move, hyenas scavenging, and smaller nocturnal animals rarely seen during the day. The bonfire awaits your return and provides the perfect place to relax and share stories from the day. Afterward, gather around for a traditional bush dinner under the stars, where the sounds of the African bush fill the air.
