Delta Camp lies on the southwestern edge of Chiefʼs Island in the heart of the spectacular Okavango Delta. Accessible by light aircraft and a mokoro ride only, it should be included on any Botswana safari itinerary for an extraordinary trip to Africa. The eight chalets at Delta Camp seamlessly blend into their environment and offer astonishing views of the landscape and floodplains scattered among the forest of palms. Visitors can truly connect with the natural world at Delta Camp since all activities are conducted without assistance from motors. Guided walks and mokoro excursions provide game viewing opportunities, with an abundance of species that can be spotted. Delta Camp’s intimate setting makes it a one-of-a-kind Botswana safari destination.

The private and spacious chalets at Delta Camp can accommodate up to 18 guests in the most natural of settings. Elevated off the forest floor and built with wood and reed, each chalet is unique and luxurious.

This incredible camp is accessed by light aircraft only and is a 20 minute flight from Maun or a 50 minute flight from Kasane. Once you land it is a 45 minute mokoro ride or 30 minute bush walk to the camp. Arrival into the camp depends upon water levels. Guests are met by their dedicated guide upon arrival at the Delta airstrip. Be sure to have sunscreen, a hat, binoculars and camera ready upon arrival so that you can begin your adventure comfortably.

The best time to visit Delta Camp which is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta, on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve is from July to October. Wildlife viewing is at its best during the dry season with average daytime temperatures hovering around 26 degrees Celsius. Be sure to pack a jacket as it dips to below 10 degrees during the evening. Higher temperatures are at the order of the day between November and March with this period also receiving the highest rainfall. This time of the year provides plenty of opportunities to see countless baby animals as well as breeding and migrant birds.

Please note: Mokoro excursions at Delta Camp depend on factors beyond their control, including water levels, vegetation, channel changes, and hippo activity. Conditions can change rapidly, and for safety reasons, mokoro trips may not always be possible. In such cases, guests are encouraged to enjoy private guided walks, which is a highlight at the camp. Their Spa Therapist is only available between June and September.

Game Drives are not available at this camp.

Your Experience

For an experience truly connected to nature, we invite you to embark on a unique walking safari. Guides will transport visitors deep into the Okavango, using only genuine, hand-made dug-out canoes (mokoros), to walk on the many islands in the region. While touring the wide Delta, enjoy the abundant wildlife and be truly immersed in nature. A guide will join guests on arrival and will remain exclusively with them for the duration of their stay.

The experience at Delta Camp is cultural as well as wildlife and wilderness-focused, and for many guests, spending time with a man who has lived his whole life in this remote location—and perhaps even seeing his home—is a revelation and a lesson in different values and perspectives.
