As we stand on the threshold of a new adventure, the African wilderness beckons, promising a journey like no other. Hideaways Africa, a name synonymous with extraordinary wildlife encounters, has unveiled a new chapter in safari experiences with Zambia safaris in the North and South Luangwa National Parks. In this untamed corner of the world an exhilarating odyssey awaits.
We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with five unique safari camps in the Luangwa Valley region of Zambia. These camps include two main camps accessible by plane or road transfer, and three walking camps that can only be reached on foot. This partnership promises to redefine the art of safari in Africa. Combining our expertise in safari accommodations and packages with the provision of exceptional safari camps nestled in Zambia’s wilderness, travellers can now experience a safari adventure like no other.
South Luangwa National Park
Tafika Main Camp
Tafika Main Camp serves as our gateway to the wonders of South Luangwa National Park. Here, you’ll discover the perfect blend of comfort and adventure, making it an ideal base for your safari expedition. With its eco-friendly design, rustic charm, and proximity to abundant wildlife, Tafika Camp promises an unforgettable experience. Tafika Camp boasts a lovely game viewing hide for those seeking intimate wildlife encounters. You can access the camp from Mfuwe Airport with scheduled flights from both Livingstone and Lusaka Airport on a daily basis.
Chikoko Tree Walking Camp
Elevated above the forest floor, you’ll stay in comfortable treehouses at the Chikoko Walking Camp, offering a unique perspective of the park’s enchanting landscapes. Walking through this untamed landscape, you’ll discover the finer details of the bush, from its captivating scents to the intricacies of the macro world, evoking a timeless connection with nature. On foot, the once towering giants of the herbivore world, such as giraffes and elephants, become graceful companions as you share eye-level encounters with buffalo.
Big Lagoon Walking Camp
Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Big Lagoon, this walking camp offers a rustic yet charming retreat. At Big Lagoon Camp, your day begins with the spectacle of sunrise over the wetlands, marked by the splashes of lechwe antelope as they bound through the landscape. A friendly morning knock on your door heralds the start of your day’s adventure. The day proceeds with breakfast, fostering a sense of relaxation and camaraderie around the campfire. Following breakfast, a four-hour walking safari allows you to explore the wilderness at your own pace, with a refreshing pause for morning tea.
North Luangwa National Park
Takwela Main Camp
Located in the heart of North Luangwa National Park, Takwela Main Camp provides a comfortable and authentic African safari experience. With the park’s untouched beauty at your doorstep, it’s an excellent starting point for your North Luangwa adventure. North Luangwa is less accessible to travelers. This remoteness ensures that only the most dedicated and adventurous safari-goers venture to this part of Zambia.
Mwaleshi Walking Camp
For a truly off-the-beaten-path adventure, Mwaleshi Walking Camp is a hidden gem. Tucked away in a remote corner of the park, it offers an exclusive and intimate wilderness experience where you can explore the remarkable North Luangwa landscapes on foot. A unique feature of North Luangwa is its focus on walking safaris. This type of safari experience is inherently less intrusive and allows guests to connect with the environment on a deeper level. The limited number of participants in walking safaris contributes to the park’s low visitor density.
These camps are not for the faint-hearted, as they are situated in remote locations, providing guests with authentic wilderness experiences in the immediate vicinity of predatory wildlife. Positioned in prime locations within the parks, they offer a unique experience amidst the untamed beauty of Zambia’s landscapes, with three of the camps accessible only on foot, where guests must cross rivers and traverse predator-filled terrains. With this partnership, we will feature these safari camps as a cornerstone of our multi-day safari packages, ensuring that our guests can experience these remarkable locations.
