Michael believes the best safaris begin with curiosity. His guiding is shaped by a deep fascination with wildlife and the natural systems that hold it all together, from birds and rare mammals to the landscapes they inhabit. Rather than simply showing guests what is there, he aims to help them understand it. The behaviours, the connections and the quiet details that bring the wild to life. With a calm and thoughtful approach, Michael guides travellers into remote and remarkable places, hoping they leave with a deeper respect for nature and the wild spaces that sustain it.

About Michael Wright

What inspired you to become a guide?

A love for nature, a sense of adventure, a love for people, a desire to see clients develop a greater appreciation and respect for nature, a desire to see wild spaces conserved and expanded, and for communities to derive value from, and a conservation ethic for, protected areas and wild species.

Where did your guiding journey begin?

Simbambili Game Lodge, Sabi Sands Nature Reserve, Greater Kruger.

What do you love most about guiding?

Discovering new species and sharing those moments with wildlife loving clients.

What destinations or ecosystems are closest to your heart?

I am naturally drawn to places with a strong sense of wilderness and varied landscapes, particularly mountainous regions such as the Drakensberg Mountains and Mutinondo Wilderness. Botswana and Zimbabwe offer that same sense of space, remoteness and connection to nature in a completely different way.
