The Characters of Camp Kuzuma

Tales from the Bush

It’s much more than the location, wildlife, bespoke accommodation and landscape that makes the Hideaways experience so life-changing. An incredibly important component of our guests’ safari holiday is the personalities and capabilities of our incredible staff. The characters of Camp Kuzuma each play an important role in the experience of our guests and we would like to introduce some of them to you to give you a taste of what to expect.

Mr. Dandy Sekwababe – Head of Staff

Our “Madala of the Kraal”, Mr. Dandy Sekwabe is in charge of all staff and has been a part of the team almost from the beginning. “Madala” means old man, or old one and is an affectionate, respectful term. He has been in the industry for a long time, starting with mobile camping and then dedicating his talents to Camp Kuzuma.

Mr. Benjamin Machinya – 2IC / Chef / Camp Maintenance

Honed his skills at Choppies Bakery, Botswana’s largest supermarket chain. Has a particular talent for finer foods and is responsible for many of the sweet treats that guests can enjoy at our daily afternoon High Tea.

Camp Kuzuma Staff

Mr. Beer Mothala – Barman & Waiter

The aptly named Mr. Beer Mothala wears many hats, with only one of them being bartender who makes sure your drink is never empty. He also plays the role of waiter, tracker, and takes care of vehicle and camp maintenance. He has been part of Camp Kuzuma since the very beginning – even before building of the camp began. He is incredibly knowledgeable of the area, especially in regards to roads and where to find game.

Mr. Edwin Boitshepo – Head of Camp Maintenance

An absolute star problem solver with a keen mind for electrical, technical and mechanical issues. Like many of our staff he is multi-talented and also performs well as a tracker.

Mr. Richwell Sarefu – Field Guide

A Professional Guide in terms of Botswana regulations and requirements who also has hidden talents when it comes to Bar service and Sommelier skills.

Mr. Gary Perryman – Field Guide

“Mr. Google” due to his extensive knowledge of all things bush related which makes him a brilliant Field Guide. We also value his green fingers in our hydro & aquaponics gardens where we grow all the fresh veggies and fruits we serve to our guests.

Mrs. Milly Kamwi – Head of Housekeeping

The Mother Hen who not only takes care of making Camp Kuzuma a welcoming home but has a soft spot in her heart for all the staff of the lodge as well, as her nature is incredibly nurturing. She is in charge of all the rooms, main area, cleaning, laundry, etc. She loves to sing and dance.

Mrs. Tshenolo Motsamai – Housekeeping

Another singing and dancing caretaker with a heart of gold. Tshenolo also has a special connection with young children and even some of our handicapped guests. She works closely with Milly and together they perform traditional songs and dances in the Boma.

Mr. Max Molefhe – Spa Therapist

Fantastic masseuse with magic hands. The maestro of your open-air spa experience offering reflexology and aromatherapy massages. The team is practically like a family and everyone works together like a well-oiled machine. There is great respect and admiration and everyone pitches in and helps when needed. They can’t wait to welcome you to Camp Kuzuma!
