Chitake Springs Camping

Safari Experiences

The Chitake Springs, situated in the southern region of the Mana Pools National Park below the escarpment, is an ideal destination for camping enthusiasts. This area is strictly reserved for walking safaris, which attracts real safari enthusiasts looking for an authentic experience. With no fences around the camp, it’s not unusual to see wild animals, including lions, roaming around.

The landscape is dotted with ancient Baobab trees and the springs become the only reliable water source in a radius of five miles making it the hotspot for game viewing in the late dry seasons. The water draws an array of wild animals which results in phenomenal sightings. Our experienced guides will take you to all the best viewing points, ensuring that you have an unforgettable safari. You can also expect to see predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas, painted dogs, snakes, and more as they are frequently spotted in the area, making it a thrilling experience for visitors.

We recommend that you stay at the camp for a minimum of three nights to fully appreciate the wildlife experience. The springs become a vital water source for an array of wild animals during the dry season, this results in phenomenal sightings during the safari season. Wildlife to spot at Chitake Springs

You can also expect to see predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas, painted dogs, snakes, and more as they are frequently spotted in the area, making it a thrilling experience for visitors. With a bit of luck, you will be able to spot prides of lions lying on the riverbanks. Just five minutes from camp, there is a spot called The Lion Triangle where Chitake Springs’ lions often take their sunbaths. Encountering these majestic animals up close and without the protection of a vehicle is undoubtedly a unique and exhilarating experience. A bit further upstream, there is a little gorge where the large herds of elephant and buffalo that come to quench their thirst provide an extraordinary spectacle. This makes the Chitake Springs a perfect destination for nature lovers who appreciate the unspoiled wilderness.
