For those looking to venture further into the wild, Hideaways Mhara River Camp offers a fly camping experience that strips safari back to its essence. This overnight experience allows you to step beyond the comforts of camp and spend a night immersed in the wilds of Mana Pools, where your group, your guide, the stars above and the wildlife around you become your only companions.

Transferring on Foot
Your journey begins in the afternoon, setting out on foot with an experienced guide towards your home for the night. The walk unfolds through the private concession, moving across varied terrain where wildlife may be encountered along the way. This is not simply a transfer, but the beginning of the experience itself, allowing time to notice the smaller details of the bush that are often missed.
Fly camp is set in a remote location, often along a dry riverbed, chosen for its natural beauty and clear visibility of the surrounding landscape. With open views in every direction, there is a strong sense of space and isolation as the wild stretches out around you.
For those eager to get to camp, it is possible to be transferred closer, followed by a brief walk of a few hundred metres to reach the site.
A Night Under The Stars
As evening settles, the atmosphere begins to shift. A simple dinner is prepared and shared around the fire, while the sounds of the bush grow more distinct. With no barriers between you and the environment, each sound becomes part of the experience.
Sleeping arrangements are intentionally simple. Guests sleep on a mattress inside a tent with a gauze roof, allowing the night sky to remain visible. These tents are suited to two people per tent. The camp accommodates a maximum of six guests, with three tents shared within the group. A bucket shower is available, and supper and drinks are included, though the focus remains on immersion rather than comfort.
Throughout the night, your guide remains nearby, while the camp itself stays open to its surroundings.

Guided and Grounded
Throughout your time at fly camp, you are accompanied by a professional guide whose knowledge of the area ensures both your safety and a deeper understanding of the environment. Their ability to interpret tracks, behaviour, and the subtle rhythms of the bush adds depth to the experience, turning each moment into an opportunity for discovery.

A Different Perspective
Fly camping offers a more intimate way to experience Mana Pools. It invites you to slow down, observe, and connect more closely with the landscape. It is less about comfort and more about presence, about experiencing the bush as it is.
By morning, as light returns, the experience leaves a lasting impression. It is shaped not only by what you saw, but by how it felt to be there.
