Whale Watching at iSimangaliso

Safari Experiences

Witness the wildlife wonder of whales on an exciting boat ride upon the Indian Ocean. Gracing us with their presence from June until the end of November, a sighting of these humpbacked whales along their migratory route is an honour. One may also have the privilege of seeing calves swimming alongside their mothers; an unforgettable ocean experience when whale watching.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the northeast coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The park encompasses a diverse range of ecosystems, including coral reefs, beaches, coastal forests, wetlands, lakes, and savannahs. It was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1999 in recognition of its outstanding natural beauty, ecological diversity, and the importance of its ecosystems.

The park includes Lake St. Lucia, which is the largest estuarine system in Africa. The lake is home to a diverse array of bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, and various waders. iSimangaliso is characterized by extensive wetland systems, including swamps and marshes. These wetlands play a crucial role in supporting a wide range of plant and animal species. The park features pristine beaches that are important nesting sites for marine turtles, including loggerhead and leatherback turtles. Dense coastal forests are found within the park, providing habitat for various plant and animal species.

Sodwana Bay, within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, is known for its pristine coral reefs. These reefs are home to a rich variety of marine life, making it a popular destination for snorkeling and scuba diving. Visitors to the park can enjoy a variety of activities, including game drives, boat tours, birdwatching, and water-based activities along the coast. The park is a haven for nature enthusiasts and offers a chance to experience the beauty of South Africa’s biodiversity.
