Where You Will Go

Zimbabwe

Package Overview

The Rhino Track and Trail Safari explores three of Zimbabwe’s most remarkable regions: Hwange National Park, the Zambezi National Park, and Victoria Falls.

Your itinerary begins in Northern Hwange, a remote area of rocky hills and ancient outcrops. Here, expert guides lead you on foot through the Bumbusi Gorge to track wildlife. Game drives and walks reveal elephants around natural springs and traces of early human history at the nearby ruins and rock etchings.

Next, you travel to a private island within the Zambezi National Park, where the setting offers quiet moments along the river. Enjoy game drives on the mainland, guided island walks and sunset cruises watching hippos, crocodiles and elephants in their natural habitat.

Your safari ends in Victoria Falls with an exclusive Black Rhino Conservation Experience in the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve. Led by specialist guides, the afternoon begins with an insightful talk on rhino protection and conservation challenges, followed by a game drive in search of these endangered animals. The experience offers a rare, close-up encounter while directly supporting the ongoing efforts to safeguard Zimbabwe’s black rhino population.

Your Itinerary

Your safari will start with a flight from Victoria Falls International Airport to Robins Airstrip in Hwange, where you will be met by your Bumbusi Guide and go on a game drive through Hwange National Park until you reach Bumbusi Wilderness Camp, your wilderness oasis for the next three nights.

Set in a remote part of northern Hwange, surrounded by rocky hills and sandstone outcrops, the camp’s location near a permanent spring makes it a gathering place for wildlife, with elephants often seen just below the main deck. With only a few stone-and-thatched chalets, the camp offers a quiet stay away from the busier parts of the park.

Your time here will be spent blending wildlife viewing with cultural history. You will explore the area on game drives and guided bush walks along the Deka River or into the Bumbusi Gorge, where you’ll track wildlife on foot with expert rangers. You’ll also visit the nearby ruins and rock etchings of the Bumbusi National Monument, reflecting the area’s long human history, one of the few places in Hwange where wildlife and heritage meet so closely.

Back at camp, the pace is slower. You can spend time on the deck, where elephants often pass by, or enjoy tea from the kettle that’s always on the fire. Evenings are simple and relaxed, with dinner and stories shared under the stars.

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred through Hwange and fly from Robins Airstrip to Victoria Falls International Airport and continue by road to Chundu Island where you will spend the next two nights.

Here, the river becomes your constant companion, wide, calm, and alive with hippos, crocodiles, and the occasional elephant crossing between channels. Your thatched suite sits tucked among the riverine forest, blending comfort with the wild sounds of the island.

Over the next two days, you can enjoy sunset cruises, game drives through Zambezi National Park, and guided island walks to learn about the flora, fauna, and delicate ecosystems that thrive here. You might spot elephants grazing on the mainland, or catch sight of pied kingfishers darting over the water. Evenings invite you to slow down, a drink in hand as the river glows gold, followed by dinner under the canopy of stars.

After coffee and a light breakfast, you will have the opportunity to go on a guided tour of Victoria Falls, a chance to feel the spray, hear the thunder, and witness the sheer scale of the Falls. Afterwards you will be transferred by road to Ilala Lodge, your accommodation for the final night of your journey.

Perched just minutes from the world-famous Victoria Falls, Ilala Lodge offers a comfortable and welcoming base to experience one of Africa’s most iconic natural wonders. Each room is designed for relaxation, with views over the gardens and, in the near distance, the mist of the “Smoke that Thunders.”

On your first afternoon, you’ll take part in the Exclusive Black Rhino Conservation Experience at the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve. Begin with an insightful talk led by an expert guide about the challenges of protecting black rhinos, followed by afternoon tea at Stanley & Livingstone. Then head out into the reserve in search of these endangered animals.

After breakfast at Ilala Lodge, you will be transferred to Victoria Falls International Airport in time for your departure flight.
